Downtown Vancouver & Stanley Park
Es ist einiges passiert! Am 7. August bin ich, nach
knapp 10 Stunden Flug und 5 Gläsern Whiskey, in Vancouver, British Columbia
gelandet. Ähnlich wie in Lissabon fiel mir sofort die Nähe zum Ozean auf! Und
dann diese ganzen Grünflächen und die Berge! Zusammen mit all den verglasten
Hochhäusern wirkt die Stadt wie ein perfekter Mix aus High-Tech und
Natur. (...) Anders als erwartet habe ich sofort Anschluss in
Kanada, meiner neuen Heimat für 10 Monate, gefunden und ein paar tolle, wenn
auch holprige, Tage an der Westküste verbracht. Leider ist hier aber auch eine
Hochburg für Obdachlose, Hipster und obdachlose Hipster. Und der Zeitunterschied von 9 Stunden hat mir den letzten Nerv geraubt. Und das Essen
ist hier einfach mal so verdammt teuer! What the fuck?
Vor ein paar Tagen bin ich aber nun nach Calgary, Alberta geflogen und
bin von dort aus nach Banff, einem kleinen Städtchen in den Rocky Mountains,
gefahren. Hier bin ich Teil einer Gruppe von internationalen Freiwilligen, die
im Banff National Park, dem ältesten Nationalpark Kanadas, arbeiten. Aber dazu
später mehr.
A lot has happened since you last heard from me! On 7th August, after a 10 hour flight and 5 plastic cups of whiskey, I landed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Similar to Lisbon I immediately noticed the proximity to the sea! And oh, all the green spaces and the mountains! Along with all the glass fronts of the skyscrapers the city seems to be a perfect hybrid of high tech and nature. (...) It was rather unexpected that I found great people to hang out with so quickly in Canada, which will be my home for the upcoming 10 months. Thus I had a great, though at times stressful, couple of days at the west coast. Unfortunately there are a lot of homeless people, hipsters and homeless hipsters in the city. And the time difference of 9 hours (as compared to Germany) just killed me. On top of that food is just astonishingly expensive around here!! Like what the actual fuck?
A few days ago though I flew to Calgary, Alberta and then drove to Banff, a small town in the Rocky Mountains, where I am part of an international volunteer group. We are working in Banff national Park, the oldest national park in Canada, but I'll probably give you some more details about that later on.
